Sandalwood smuggling racket suspected in Kangra district

Jawalamukhi: Some miscreants allegedly felled five sandalwood trees in Bohan village of Jawalamukhi Police station area this morning and took away the logs in a vehicle from a “chandan van” near the Ashatbhuji mandir.
A case has been registred by the local police. Some days back, Amit Kumar of Harinagar in UP was caught felling a sandalwood tree from Madan Lal’s land in Bheroo Bohan on the Jawalamukhi-Dehra road, The Jawalamukhi police has arrested Amit Kumar under Section 379, IPC. Amar singh of Aligarh and Manoj alonwith brahmanand was also arrested by the police with the help of locals recently, when they were trying to fell sandalwood trees in the area.
The SSP Kangra Atul Phulzale told mediapersons that the police is trying to establish a link to expose a sandalwood smuggling racket being carried out from Jawalamukhi, which has a large number of sandalwood trees.
