Dharmshala: Lieutenant-General Vinay Sharma SM, VSM, took over command of the Rising Star Corps Yol Army Cantonment in Kangra district.
A spokesman for the Army said that the new General Officer Commanding was well versed with the terrain and operational aspects of the new command as he had earlier also held command assignments in this sector. Commissioned into the Dogra Regiment, he has held an illustrious profile of command, staff and instructional assignments.
Lt Gen Sharma is a veteran of the 1971 war of liberation of Bangladesh and had commanded earlier formations in Jammu and Kashmir. Incidentally, Lt Gen Sharma happens to be a second-generation officer who is also a son of the soil. He takes over the command from Lt. General B S Nagal, the spokesman said.
