Himachal Pradesh to have new India Reserve Battalion

Shimla: Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal revealed today that Centre has sanctioned raising of new India Reserve Battalion (IRB) for Himachal Pradesh and provided central assistance of Rs. 12.75 crore as raising cost.

On 18th January, 2008 Dhumal had written a detailed D.O to Union Home Minister Shiv Raj Patil and in response to the relevant points raised in the letter by the Chief Minister Union Home Minister sanctioned 4th R B Battalion to the state.

Dhumal said that total 1000 posts of different categories will be created in the battalion and added that out of total strength, 963 rank posts, 33 wireless staff and 11 posts of medical and ministerial staff will be filled in the battalion. He also said that Centre will also provide Rs. 8 crore as capital cost for meeting the infrastructure expenditure and added that it will be in the shape of grant-in-aid from funds allotted under security related expenditure .He said that all the vacancies in the battalion will be filled within two years period by January 2010.

Chief Minister said that State Government will make available the battalion to the Central Government as and when any emergency arises. It has been agreed that battalion can also be deployed in any part of the country which faces law and order problem but the expenditure of the battalion deployment will be borne by the scrounge state and Centre Government will bear expenses when such deployment has been made to exempt category States like Jammu and Kashmir and North East areas. He said that entire recruitment process will be completed with two years.

He further added that around 250 constables would be trained as special task force with special capabilities to work in terrorism affected areas.
