Misuse of benefits under PDS to be curbed

JAWALAMUKHI: Ramesh Dhawala, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister said here today that it had been brought into the Government notice that some families for their selfish motive were making more than one ration cards and misusing the benefits being provided under Public Distribution System. He said that the Government had taken serious view of dividing the family for petty gain and added that to curb this false process, strict steps were being taken through Panchayati Raj Department. He further said that in view of it, the selection process of below poverty line and Antoyadya families would also be re-considered in the State. He also directed the senior officers of the Department to attend to such public grievances and take immediate action accordingly.
He also appealed the consumers not to keep their ration cards with the Depot Holders otherwise action as per rule would be taken. Dhawala told Mediapersons that due to the efforts of State Government in last few days, the more improvement in the supply of LPG Gas cylinders were also brought about throughout the State. He said that about 8400 additional LPG Gas Cylinders were brought to the State but despite it some people were trying to create artificial shortage to LPG Gas Cylinders which the Government would not tolerate at any cost. He said that it had also been brought to the notice of the Government that domestic LPG Gas Cylinders in place of commercial LPG were being used in Hotel, Dhabas and Tea Shops etc. which was being looked into and action against the defaulters as per rule would be taken.
