Shimla: Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal wrote a letter to Chhatisgarh CM Raman Singh regarding purchasing of electricity. He revealed that state government will procure electricity from Chhatisgarh from different captive generators located in the state as short term open access for meeting the additional power requirement during the winter season.
He said that Himachal is fully dependent upon on its hydro potential for generation of electricity and there was no thermal or alternate power available to meet the additional requirement during the winter season when the hydro electric generation reduces to its lowest due to the freezing of the water resources. He also mentioned that work on about 10,000MW capacity hydro electric projects was on completion at various stages and with the completion of all such projects the state would not only be power sufficient but also capable to supply power to other needy states all round the year and also generate income to the state.
