State not to compromise on environment for developmental needs – Dhumal

Dhumal at manaliShimla: Himachal Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal today said that the government would not compromise on environment while considering developmental projects. He said this while presiding a public meeting and a function at the Western Himalayan Institute of Mountaineering at Manali.

He urged the people to assist in conserving the ecology of Kullu-Manali valley as it held great attraction for tourists from all over the world.

Dhumal also said that natural wealth should be utilized in such a way that the ecology remained protected.

He stated that a focused attention would be paid to make tourism a vast self-employment generation sector which would enhance employment avenues and infrastructure in rural areas to promote rural tourism.

Further talking about the driving force on adventure tourism, Dhumal said that the mountaineering institute was poised to emerge as the pioneer in adventure tourism promotion in the country.

He thanked former Prime Minister, Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee for sanctioning Rohtang tunnel and said that the Rohtang tunnel would go a long way in promoting tourism as well as providing year around connectivity to the people of Lahaul. On the occasion he also inaugurated an Rs 98 lakh tourist adventure lodge on the institutes’ campus. He also disclosed the approved amount of Rs 1.26 crore by Government for additional accommodation which is to be constructed on the campus.
