Baddi to have an integrated Transport Nagar

KUMARHATTI: To counter the parking and traffic problem the Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh Development Authority (BBNDA) has planned to set up an integrated Transport Nagar at Baddi. For this purpose, about 40-50 acres has already been identified.

The facilities envisaged in Transport Nagar includes; parking facilities for about 1500-2000 transport vehicles, weigh bridge, warehousing, auto repair, service stations, petrol pumps, offices for transporters/ financial institutions, eateries etc.

Currently, parking facilities in Baddi is very poor. Though there are small parking areas in Baddi-Sai road. But these are only available for small and light vehicles. Ironically the industrial town receives record number of heavy vehicles daily but there is no organized space for these heavy transport vehicles.

About 2,500 vehicles are registered with Nalagarh Truck Union. Besides this there is are separate unions for medium trucks, tempos and autos. At present these vehicles are parked along the main road on NH-21 leading to the severe traffic congestion. The situation turns awkward in evening hours when most of industrial workforce leaves units.

Moreover the most of the auto repairs shops and service stations are along the main roads and highways that further add to traffic congestion.
