Another village gutted in Kullu district

Shimla: It seems Vulcan is angry with Kullu. First, it was Mohani village and now it is Malana village of Kullu district that was gutted by a devastating fire. Today, early morning a destructive fire gutted more than 100 houses of a Malana village situated about fifty-five kilometers from district headquaters.

However, no loss of life is reported yet but the loss of property is greater as more than five temples including the historic and traditional Jamdagini Temple of main local deity has been completely destroyed and about 148 families of the village have become homeless.

The cause of fire is still unknown.

Immediate relief chores have started and the Kullu district administration has distributed Rs. 10000 per family as an immediate relief besides 500 blankets, tarpaulins, 50 tents, quilts and ration for a month to the affected families, according to the Deputy Commissioner.

Himachal Governor V.S.Kokje and Chief Minister Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal along with Kullu and Banjar MLAs, Govind Thakur and Khemi Ram respectively, expressed grief over the incident. Furthermore, Dhumal directed the District Administration to provide immediate financial assistance and logistics to the affected families and assured to rehabilitate them with all possible help despite of problematic geographical condition.
