Jawalamukhi local body demands more government involvement

JawalaMukhi:The Bhartiya Janta Party today passed a no confidence motion against the congrees sported president of Jawalamukhi Nagar Panchayat of Kangra district. The motion was presented in the presence of S D M Dehra Mrs. Mamta Chaudhry.She was deputed by the D C Kangra to convene the meeting.Out of seven, five members were present in the meeting.They voted against present president Babli Sharma. Members of Nagar panchayat present at the meeting unanimously elected Mrs. Manisha Sharma as president.

Newly -elected President of Nagar Panchyat Mrs. Manisha Sharma a close confident of Chief Minister Mr. Prem Kumar Dhumal, has urged the state government to abolish house tax in this Temple Town. She strongly advocated to give a special status to this age-old town and demanded the state government to chalk out a comprehensive plan for the development of the town. She said that the state government should bear the financial burden of the Nagar panchyat by allocating funds in annual Budget.

While talking to media persons at her office here today Mrs. Manisha Sharma, lamented that this historical town has been systematically and intentionally relegated to the background. She stressed that state government should also set-up a high level committee at Statel-Level to ascertain the facts in order to bring the town to lime light from his historical angle, moreover. She was of the opinion that state government too should not dither on its part to shoulder its responsibility to bring this town on historical map.

In spite of imposing the taxes on the peoples, government should come forward to bear the financial liabilities of the Nagar Panchyat. This temple town attracting thousands of tourists daily who comes here to pay obeisances to famous shrine of Jawalamukhi were a main concern for us. Mostly they went back disappointed because the failure of authorities to provide basic civic amenities, she added. The main contradiction of the implementation of the plans & proposals is that they are merely prepared for local peoples only. Mrs Sharma Said her first priority would be to launch cleanliness drives in the town with the help of local level development committees in each ward. She said privatisation of sanitary services was the only alternative to the deteriorating civic conditions in the town, adding that Nagar Panchayat would work on the possibilities of deploying contractors for sanitation. She also stressed the need to create civic sense among est the masses.
