Shimla: UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi remarked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as a fascist and corrupt while addressing a public rally in the downtown Ridge ground, Shimla.
She said,
‘The (BJP-led) National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government broke all corruption records at the centre and shamelessly spread the ‘India shining’ campaign to misguide the people of the country. It eventually paid the price by losing power… The NDA government also spread a malicious campaign against the minorities and disturbed communal harmony.’
She further separated Congress from other parties and called it unique not only in India but around the world for having such a long tradition of serving the nation. And she considered the ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi as their inspiration behind their uniqueness.
Before, campaigning in Shimla, Sonia addressed a rally in Una where she accused the BJP of spreading rumors and misleading the people of the country.
She added that Congress never divided the people on the basis of religion or caste and had taken everybody together towards development since independence.
Then she named some works by the UPA government like a separate wing for ex-servicemen and their families’ welfare was set up in the Defense ministry, taken several steps to prevent atrocities against women and also the right to inherit their parental property. The concept of economic empowerment through women Self Help Group formation was also boosted during Congress rule.
While speaking on the local issues of the district Mrs. Gandhi said efforts being put in by the Congress Government in checking soil erosion during the monsoon season in the district and patted Virbhadra Singh Government for ushering in large scale development here.
