Sidelining of Shanta Kumar in Himachal BJP will favor Congress: Rathore

Shimla: Congress today claimed that marginalization of former union and chief minister Shanta Kumar within BJP has opened doors for them to come back to power in Himachal Pradesh.

Talking to the media congress spokesman Kuldeep Singh Rathore said that sidelining of Shanta Kumar and projecting former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal as BJP’s chief ministerial candidate will help the Congress to return to power. Stressing the point he termed BJP as a “divided house” and considered the unity of congress in the run up to the assembly polls would help inflict a crushing defeat on BJP.

He laid claim Congress Government performance over during the last four and a half years had –

  • Regularized over 50,000 daily wagers where as the previous BJP government had retrenched over 35,000 people
  • Created one lakh employment opportunities under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), which was now being implemented in all the twelve districts of the state
  • Been successful in attracting over Rs 28,000 crore of investment in the state during the tenure

After summarizing the performance of Congress Government Rathore talked about the prominent figures of party who will come to the state to address public rallies for second phase assembly elections.

He said, the party would hold five rallies on a single day in various parts of the state on December, 7th, – the union minister of state for External Affairs Anand Sharma would address a rally at Amb in Una district, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda at Sujanpur Tira in Hamirpur, Satpal Maharaj at Nerva in Shimla district, Meera Kumar at Balh in Mandi district and former Punjab deputy chief minister will address a rally at Nalagarh.

Rathore also added that the dates for UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the state were being worked out.
