Election Commission directive on identity documents required on polling day

Shimla: Spokesperson of the Election Commission of India said that that all electors in Kinnaur (ST), Bharmour (ST) and Lahaul and Spiti (ST) Assembly Constituencies, who have been issued Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPICs), shall have to produce these cards to exercise their franchise when they come to the polling stations for voting on 14 November, 2007.
Spokesperson clarified that the Election Commission will, however, permit those electors who have not been issued their Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) so far by Election Department, to vote in elections of three tribal Assembly Constituencies, provided their identity is otherwise established by the production of any of the following alternative documents i.e. Passport, Driving Licenses, Income Tax Identity (PAN) Cards, Service Identity cards.
Documents of Public Sector Banks/Post Office and Kisan Passbooks, Student Identity cards issued by Recognized Educational Institutions, Property documents such as Pattas, Registered Deeds etc. and Ration Cards, SC/ST/OBC Certificates issued by competent authority.
The Spokesperson said that Pension documents such as ex-servicemen’s Pension Book/Pension Payment Order, Ex-servicemen’s, Widow/dependent certificates, Old age pension order, Widow Pension Order, Freedom Fighter Identity cards, Arms Licenses, Certificate of Physical Handicap by Competent Authority, Copy of parivar register as maintained by Gram Panchayat/Urban Local Bodies like Municipal Committees etc. and duly issued by Gram Panchayat and Vikas Adhikari/competent authorities, Domicile certificate (Himachali Certificate) issued by a revenue officer like SDM/Tehsildar/Naib Tehsildar will also be considered as proof for the voting purpose.
The Spokesperson said that all above mentioned documents issued on or before 30th September, 2007 will be considered only.
