Hamirpur administration gears up for the assembly elections

More than 85% voters of Hamirpur district have photo identity cards with them and the work for providing such cards to rest of the voters would be taken up shortly. But for this, such persons would have to contact concerned Assistant Returning officers of the areas, according to Deputy Commissioner, Nandita Gupta. There are five assembly segments in the district and the total number of voters in the district stands at 3,55,100 .
Addressing media personas first time after taking over as the Deputy Commissioner of Hamirpur, Ms. Gupta said that a meeting of the personals who would impart training to the staff performing election duties during the assembly elections in the district would be held here on October 30th. She said that those interested for getting the Photo identity cards would have to approach the concerned Assistant returning Officers of their respective areas.
She said that elections would be held in a free and fair manner and for this all out steps were being taken by the administration.
The Deputy Commissioner said that instructions had been issued to the staff of the departments of Food and supplies, the health and the excise and taxation to ensure that traders were selling their items on the fixed rates prescribed by the government agencies from time to time and there was no black marketing or hoarding of any items during the festival period.
She said that the two Day Hamir Utsav coinciding with the formation of Hamirpur district would be held on November 1 and 2. Himachal Governor, Justice K.S.Kokje will inaugurate the festival, whereas Divisional Commissioner, B.K.Aggarwal would be the chief guest on the concluding day.
Various types of sports competitions and cultural programmes would be presented during the festival. Hema Sardesai and Hans Raj Hans, two world famous singers would delight the crowd on November 1 and 2.
