Shimla: The Election Commission has directed chief secretary Ravi Dingra to recover the cost of a helicopter flight which the chief minister along with his colleagues undertook to meet the Election Commission members soon after the elections to the state general assembly were announced.
The election commission treated the trip to Delhi as an election related matter which had no relation with governance of the state.
The chief minister along with his colleagues had knocked on the doors of the commission after October 10th when the elections were announced and he had tried to lobby for a postponement of the election schedule announced.
“The state government should not defray the expenditure nor should meet the said expenditure from departmental funds, but recover the same from the user for using the state helicopter in violation of model code of conduct,†the EC said in a communication to the state chief secretary.
