Himachal to develop Chanshal slopes for skiing

Rohru, Shimla: Virbhadra Singh, Himachal CM said that Chanshal slopes would be developed for skiing and connected with ropeways to promote winter sports and tourism activities in the area. He said that Kalgah Pattan was also being explored from the tourism point of view and add to the area benefiting local populace with direct and indirect employment and enhanced economic activities. He said that the area had vast tourism potential which was being exploited with ecological safeguards.
Chief Minister said that so far unconnected Dodra Kwar area of the Sub-Division would soon receive the regular vehicles connecting the valley with rest of the world as the road construction through Chanshal heights had been completed and its improvement work was in progress. He said that despite the limited working season, the State Government accorded top priority for the construction of the road and the same was likely to be dedicated to the people of the valley very soon.
Singh said that experts opinion had confirmed that Chanshal slopes were most suitable for ski runs and within sports activities for which required infrastructure would be created so that winter sports enthusiasts were attracted from all over the world to explore the ski slopes in the valley. He said that it would help in boosting the adventure sports linked with tourism promotion and explore more avenues of income generation to the people in the valley. He said that his Government proposed to construct an international stadium near Shimla in near future.
At 4520 m above the sea level, the Chanshal Pass is open from May to October.
