HAMIRPUR
On the last day of the campaign for the bye election to Hamirpur Lok sabha poll, Himachal Chief Minister, Vir Bhadra Singh today asked the BJP candidate , Prem Kumar Dhumal to file an affidavit to ensure that he would not resign the Lok sabha seat if he was elected. He, however, claimed that there was no chance for Dhumal to win as the Congress was marching ahead and there was an undercurrent in favor of the party in all the seventeen assembly segments of the Parliamentary constituency.
Addressing election meetings in Mewa area of the Hamirpur district today, Singh claimed that the rout of BJP was imminent and people were for Congress for their own well being and welfare.
Singh came down heavily on the BJP candidate for contesting the Lok sabha election on one hand and telling the people on other hand that even if elected, he would lead the party in the next Vidhan sabha elections due in February 2008. It was so ridiculous, he told the people that the senior BJP leader was making such type of statements.
The chief minister announced that the next Vidhan sabha elections in the state would be held in February 2008 as per scheduled and there was no question of early elections.
He gave a clarion call to the people to join hands with the Congress and vote for Ram lal Thakur in the bye election.
