Taxis to have meters in two Himachal towns

Himachal Pradesh Meter Taxi Scheme 2006 shall come into effect within a radius of 40 kms. of the main bus stand in Shimla and Dharamsala towns w.e.f. 11th March, 2007. A notification was issued in this regard by the State Government.

As per the directions issued to the State Transport Authority and Regional Transport Authorities in this regard, they would ensure that the rates will be fixed/charged for metered taxies in the State under the scheme. Charges of taxi cabs (having seating capacity upto six seats) for the first kilometer would be Rs. 50 and Rs. 10 per kilometer for 2nd and subsequent kms. Charges for Maxi cabs (having seating capacity between 7-12 seats) for the first kilometer would be Rs. 70 and Rs.15 per km. for 2nd and subsequent kms. The above rates notified include empty haulage and recovery from the passenger shall be as per actual distance covered and recorded on the taxi meter. Waiting charges @ Rs. 25 per hour, luggage charges @ Rs. 5 per item excluding small bags/attaché etc. and night charges from 11.00 PM to 5.00 AM =10% of the above rates will be chargeable.
