Sex determination test banned in Himachal

The endeavours of the State Government in banning sex determination were yielding encouraging outcomes in improving the sex ratio in the State. This was revealed by Virbhadra Singh, Chief Minister while addressing an impressive meeting at Mukerian in Punjab organized by Rajput Kalyan Sabha, Mukerian to commemorate contribution of great worrier Maharana Pratap in keeping momentum to the freedom movement century ago. He said that his Government had banned on the sex determination test in the State with a view to check the decreasing female sex ratio compare to the sex male ratio in the State. He said that his government was concerned about the widening gap both the sexes, which was dangerous for the society and coming generation. He said that prenatal test had been declared cognizable offence under the legal provision. He said that any person giving information about such practices were also being rewarded with a cash prize of Rs. 10,000.

Chief Minister said that high literacy rate in the State had also contributed significantly in creating awareness amongst the masses about the dangerous situations fore seen in the widening of male-female sex ratio. He said that his Government has given added attention towards the improvement in female sex ratio and their literacy for which special campaign had been launched all over the State so that the literacy of female was also improved and brought at par with the male literacy ratio.

He said that the State Government was providing free education to the girls upto the highest level of education besides providing them various incentives so that they could pursue their studies conveniently upto the highest level. He added that educating a girl means educating a complete family and there should not be any difference between the boy and the girl.

Virbhadra Singh said that the State had made rapid strides on all fronts of the development after Himachal Pradesh emerged as a separate political unit in the country on 15 April, 1948. He said that today Himachal Pradesh was the role model of development and source of inspiration to the developing States. He added that despite all constraints the visionary policies and programmes of the successive Congress Governments in the State had brought the State forefront in the Country.

Chief Minister emphasized the need for incorporating the ideology of Maharana Partap into ones life, so that they could also dedicate themselves to the national cause and upholding the teaching of the great worriers who sacrificed their all comforts for the cause of the nation. He said that the need had emerged to work in close co-ordination and social harmony for the betterment of the society and development of the State.
