Himachal’s mega tourism project awaits New Delhi nod

Shimla, Aug 9. A multimillion rupee tourism project in Himachal Pradesh, that includes five star hotels, a ski village and an international airport, awaits the green signal from the central government after being cleared by the state cabinet.
The project proposed by SKIL Infrastructure, a Mumbai-based firm led by Nikhil Gandhi, has been referred to New Delhi, which will decide the fate of project. ‘If permission is granted, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) will be signed,’ a senior official told IANS.
The project includes the construction of a resort with five star hotels, a ski village, a fruit and food processing zone, an international airport and a luxury train going through the hills on the lines of the Palace on Wheels.
According to official sources, the project is likely to be based in Kullu, Shimla or Solan and will be taken up in two stages with Rs. 42 billion being spent in the first phase.
The ambitious train project is likely to be built by a Swiss company and the new hill station will also boast of world-class skiing facilities.
Sources in the company five European companies have expressed interest in having up to one-third equity in the ski project. The project also envisages high-tech health care facilities, apart from knowledge-based infrastructure.
The fruit and flowers processing infrastructure will be spread over 3,000 acres and will be located near the proposed international airport.
