Located in the Western Himalaya, Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh is a dream world. Fascinated by its scenic beauty and richness of culture, the historians have described Chamba as wonderland. Gorgeous landscape, majestic snow-capped mountain ranges of Dhauladhar, Pir Panjal and Zanskar, the humming rivers, placid lakes, perennial springs, lush green forests, ancient temples & monuments, and amazing art and architecture throw an open invitation to the tourists of all kinds.
There is hardly any region elsewhere which affords as great variety of people and places as Chamba does. The sub-divisions namely Pangi, Churah, Chamba, Bharmaur and Bhattiyat are peculiar not only in their topography but also in their language, traditions, customs and culture. Pangi is the remotest part of Chamba district and is virgin in many respects.
The people of Chamba district are peace-loving, honest, simple, fair and charming. The folk songs of Chamba are sweeter than honey.
Based on his intimate knowledge and experience of the place and people, the author has given colourful account of the legends & lores, history, life-style, customs, fairs & festivals, art & craft, important temples, monuments and scenic places of Chamba which stir one’s imagination about the place.

About the Author(s)
Born in village Nara, Distt. Hamirpur of Himachal Pradesh, K.R. Bharti is an administrator and a litterateur. Maintaining a brilliant academic record all through, he was selected in Himachal Pradesh Administrative Service examination in the year 1985. He remained topper of his batch. After joining Himachal Pradesh Administrative Service, he worked on important postings as SDM Pangi, SDM Dalhousie, SDM Chamba, ADM Chamba, ADM Sirmaur, before he was posted as Director, Languages, Art and Culture of Himachal Pradesh. He has won wide acclaim for his outstanding work in the field, from government as well as non-governmental organisations. He won Silver medal for his outstanding contribution in the Census Operations in the year 1991.
He fell in love with reading and writing since his early age. His already published works include Pangi and Pangwals (English), Peepal Se Poplar (Hindi poems), Pahar Per Rakatpat (Hindi poems). The present book is a result of his persistent efforts during his nine years’ stay in different parts of Chamba district. Besides, his articles keep on appearing in important newspapers and magazines. Most of his poems have been broadcast and telecast. Various non-govt. organisations have awarded him for his literary contribution.
